Dr. Melissa E. Noel has been awarded a Russell Sage Foundation Pipeline Grant for her project, “Between Borders in a Carceral Age: Parental Incarceration and Deportation Among Young Adults.” This groundbreaking research project will examine how young adults experience the overlapping impacts of parental incarceration and parental deportation. Dr. Noel will explore the emotional, social, and familial consequences that these intersecting systems impose on young adults. By illuminating the dual systems of carceral punishment and immigration enforcement, the project seeks to provide insight on how young adults strive to build their lives across borders. Her critical research aims to inform future research, practice, and policy on how to better support young adults through these challenges.
