Admissions and funding decisions are made by the specific graduate program(s) to which you apply and our Graduate School. You should always start your search for information about funding by contacting your intended program(s).

In keeping with Temple’s commitment to access and affordability, our graduate degree programs offer multiple opportunities for financial support from external, federal and university sources on a competitive level.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level, course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. The tuition costs below apply to the 2024–2025 academic year. Use the student tuition calculator to estimate your tuition rate. 

• Pennsylvania resident: $1,105 per credit
• Out-of-state: $1,518 per credit

Fellowships

Applicants must have an exceptional academic record and have applied and submitted supporting documentation early, but no later than December 15. Applicants are nominated by their department.

• Presidential Fellowships - Applicants are nominated by the department. This award is competitive and reserved for outstanding incoming graduate students.  
• University Fellowships - Applicants are nominated by the department. This award is intended to support outstanding incoming graduate students who demonstrate outstanding potential for success in their chosen fields.
• Future Faculty Assistantships - Applicants are nominated by the department. It is intended to attract outstanding newly admitted domestic graduate students from underrepresented groups in the applicant's discipline to contribute to diversifying the professoriate. The ideal candidates should show exceptional leadership and/or have overcome significant obstacles in pursuing an academic career.
• Research Assistantships - Applicants are recommended by the department. They are an essential building block in the foundation of learning at Temple. Graduate students, along with a faculty member, perform groundbreaking research throughout the academic year. Graduate research students work up to 20 hours a week and are compensated with a health insurance plan, a stipend, and tuition remission.
• Teaching Assistantships - Applicants are recommended by the department. TAs instruct, lecture, and provide academic support in the classroom, office, laboratory and recitation sections.  TAs are required to perform up to 20 hours a week in support of the department’s undergraduate programs and are compensated with a health insurance plan, a stipend and tuition remission. 
• Doctoral Dissertation Completion Grant - The department nominates doctoral students who have completed all requirements for the degree, except the required dissertation, and are advanced to candidacy for the Doctoral Dissertation Completion Grant.  The grant includes a stipend and one credit of tuition remission for five months.
• Master of Fine Arts Project Completion Grant - Departments nominate students who have completed all requirements for their degree, except the required project. The award carries a stipend and one credit of tuition remission.

Federal Financial Aid

• Federal Loans - At Temple University, unsubsidized Stafford loans are available to full-time graduate students up to a maximum amount of $20,500 annually.  Applying for federal Stafford loans requires completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Federal Work-study - Eligibility for the Federal Work-study Program is based on the applicant’s need as determined by the information on the applicant’s FAFSA. In addition, students must be enrolled at least half time and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
